Opening Post

For those of you who are not aware, I've returned to school to pursue my teaching certification for Physical Education. This was not an easy decision; after being laid off at the end of September, I knew that Social Work just wasn't for me so this is what I decided to do. I've taught English, Spanish, Social Studies, Math, Spanish, etc. but have always wanted to do something more fun. Most everyone loves PE, I know I did when I was in school.

While I'm sure we all would like to lose those few extra pounds, gain more muscle (especially for those New Years Resolutions), etc...I've created this blog so I can tell you some of what I'm doing but also to get suggestions from you on how you keep yourselves in shape, certain exercises, foods, trade secrets, etc. I'm very interested to get feedback, both positive and constructive.

My professors often say nobody wants to hire an out of shape PE teacher. The majority of my classmates are undergraduates at least 10 years younger than I so keeping up with them is certainly not easy. To give you some info. on me, to date, I've lost about 18 pounds since Nov. 1st. This AM, I got my wedding ring back on which was fantastic. A brand new gym just opened in our neighborhood which is fantastic and cheap plus I get access to all the Temple facilities. However, the athletes have an amazing facility, us lowly students get the second rate equipment. :)

Honestly, I attribute the weight loss to just eating less, portion control makes a big difference and I pretty much eat what I want. (My wife can attest to that:). So….I will continue to update; as I said before, please continue to read, check it out and comment!

  1. It sounds like you are on a good path. Loosing weight isn't easy. I have lost large amounts twice. The first was 100 pounds and more recently 40 (although I want to loose more). I think my biggest mistake/advice would be after you do loose weight make sure you don't wait too long when you gain a little back. It is MUCH easier to loose 5 or 10 pounds than it is to loose 40.

    Good luck!
